I've never heard of this guy and yet, on the basis of these two panels, he's up there with Milton Caniff and Alex Raymond - brilliant inking.
Love this site, Oscar and the dailies (the cat and the princess) on the internet are terrific at the moment.

Personally, I think Robbins was better than Caniff (the originator of the style) and much, much better than Raymond. Robbins is more intelligent in the way he composes his panels and he's able to convey the most with the less amount of strokes.

I love Robbins..Possibly sexier than Canniff but he never had the pathos, the rhythm or the sparkling dialogue Canniff had...He ended drawing Batman in a very strange style.
Pity the McCarthism that pervaded in that period of the American comics scene!

Ditto the Miyasaki debate, Oscar - I know you vehemently disagree but I have to declare that "My Neighbour Totoro" is a visual masterpiece and full of authentic feeling. I really love "Porco Rosso" too but I'm not too keen on his later films which seem less personal.
